Education used to be “about teaching people something” but has evolved to “making sure that individuals develop a reliable compass and the navigation skills to find their own way through an increasingly uncertain, volatile and ambiguous world” (OECD report,2015).
Schools need to prepare students for a fast pace changing world, for jobs yet to be created, technologies to be invented, and problems yet to be solved.
Change cannot happen with only individuals, but within teams that collaborate and learn together. Change happens within a work culture that needs to be discussed, together with the individual skills to carry that change.
Newschool invites you to a practical exploration of the teacher`s role as a change agent, not only of his/her own practice, but one empowered to build change teams towards a personalised, informal and collaborative vision of education . This course is designed for lifelong learning of educational experts, as part of the “Education, Scholarships, Apprenticeships and Youth Entrepreneurship” EEA Grants 2014-2021.
The course has a threefold objective:
How to build "change teams" - practicing competences needed to sustain implementation of innovative practices in own institutions.
How to be a facilitator in a student-centered education system - practicing facilitation skills and learning from and with a team
How to work with interdisciplinary projects - practicing, tools and methodologies
Welcome to a 5 day immersion into project-based learning, teaching as leadership, facilitation techniques and job shadowing of Norwegian schools. We will explore experiential ways of learning, and practice the change educators` role from delivering information to inspiring, facilitating, and designing for creativity, innovation and risk in education. Learning by doing - not by listening.
Facilitation; Designing curricula for 21st century skills; Reflecting on experiences; Problem-based learning; Storytelling/Narrative capacity to picture scenarios; Capacity to take initiative, analyze and evaluate; Collaborative learning; Learning from mistakes; Feedback giving and feedback receiving.
The workshop will concentrate on teaching as leadership: exploring the role of the teacher as a facilitator for transversal skills., a practical workshop in facilitation techniques, feedback giving and receiving, and exploration of the role of the teacher as a change agent.
This course is offered on 3 different dates :

The price for the 3 day course is 350 euros/ participant. In addition, a fee of 65 euros/participant is required for lunch & coffee breaks for the 3 days. The cost of travel and accommodation is not included.
